Wow- I hadn’t heard this! Aloe vera is also a great home remedy for cold sores. It’s gentle on irritated skin- very calming. It reduces inflammation and fights infection, speeding the healing process. There are lots of products out there that contain aloe, but I think it’s best in its purest form, straight from the plant. I found some info on how to use the gel from the leaves, and some articles related to aloe and healing here: aloeplant.info

Since the virus that causes cold sores lasts a lifetime, one of the keys to treating cold sores is actually to try preventing them. *

The first symptoms of cold sores may include pain around your mouth and on your lips, a fever, a sore throat, or swollen glands in your neck or other parts of the body. Small children sometimes drool before cold sores appear. After the blisters appear, the cold sores usually break open, leak a clear fluid, and then crust over and disappear after several days to 2 weeks. For some people, cold sores can be very painful.-
