Oil Pulling and Health Benefits

How to Do Oil Pulling & Health Benefits

Oil pulling is not a new concept, it’s been around for hundreds and How to do oil pulling and the health benefitshundreds of years but it’s lately making a comeback as a great way to de-toxify your body, whiten your teeth and give you good overall health. It’s an Ayurvedic method that detoxifies and rejuvenates your body and requires nothing more than some oil and the dedication to swish it around in your mouth for up to 20 min a day!

What is Oil Pulling?

Simply put – it’s swishing oil around in your mouth. Sort of like a mouthwash, though you do it a little longer. The idea is to swish the oil around in your mouth, have it mix in with the saliva and allow the oil to draw toxins from your mouth and body into the swish. After the 20 minutes is up, simply spit out the swish (into a garbage) and rinse your mouth if you desire. Done.

Who Can Do Oil Pulling?

Because you do not want to swallow or especially, choke, on the oil, be careful when allowing children to do oil pulling. They need to be able to do the swishing without swallowing or chocking.

There are also mixed reviews on whether to do oil pulling when pregnant or breastfeeding. Always do your own research. Many women have done oil pulling because they can’t get dental work done while pregnant and they have claimed no adverse reactions and have had no teeth problems either. Others have claimed it helped their morning sickness, but again, do your research to be safe.

Health Benefits of Oil Pulling?

The whole concept goes beyond just a healthy mouth. The whole health of your body starts with your mouth and with the oil pulling the toxins from your body and helping your body function as it should, it’s no surprise that oil pulling is said to be good for:

  • Migraine Relief
  • Hormone Imbalance Relief
  • Reducing Arthritis Inflammation
  • Help with GI Tract
  • Reduce Eczema and other skin related issues
  • Reduce lung problems, bronchitis
  • Reduce Sinus congestion and mucus build up
  • Improved vision
  • Reduce insomnia
  • Helps with hemorrhoids and irritable bowel syndrome
  • Reducing hangover
  • Reducing pain
  • Reduces allergies
  • Detoxifies from heavy metals

Dangers of Oil Pulling

There are no known dangers of oil pulling except for the obvious danger of swallowing the oil. Actually, swallowing the oil pulling leads to white teeth and overall good healthoil itself is not really harmful, though the toxins the oil will contain once you are done are not meant to be swallowed. Any oil is dangerous if choked on though, so be sure not to choke on the oil. If the oil enters the lungs you will not be able to get it out.

This is why you must show caution when deciding on what age children should be allowed to do oil pulling.

How to Do Oil Pulling

Best done first thing in the morning, before you have eaten anything. Do not oil pull on a full stomach.

Take the oil of your choice – it can be coconut, sesame, sunflower etc. Personally, I prefer coconut oil. You can take 1 tsp or 1 TBSP, whatever is most comfortable for you. ( I would start with a teaspoon and work my way up eventually.) Now, you can either get the oil in liquid form (if it’s not already) by placing it in a small bowl, inside a larger bowl of hot water. Or, you can just put it in your mouth, coconut oil for example melts really quickly.

Now, gently begin swishing back and forth, swishing between your teeth and working the oil around your teeth with your tongue. You don’t have to swish hard and you don’t want so much oil in your mouth that you end up swallowing or choking on the oil!

Many people wake up in the morning, get the oil in their mouth, jump into the shower, do their routine and then spit the oil out (into the garbage otherwise it’ll clog the drains) and then be on their way. You can swish with a bit of sale water once you are done and brush your teeth if you’d like, or just swish with regular water if you need to.

Adobe error code 1069 for Kobo

Getting an error code 1069?

After searching for an answer online and not seeing any solutions I played around with my Kobo and figured it out.

Recently I had changed my Adobe password, this is likely why I suddenly couldn’t download any books from my library.

I uninstalled Overdrive and then reinstalled it. Check your date and time settings ( otherwise Adobe will tell you to check them at the next step).

Go into Overdrive and add your library. You will be told you need an Adobe ID. Enter you ID and password and browse all the setting options.

You should be good to go now. With your Adobe ID updated you should now be able to download your books.

Hemorrhoids: Natural Cures and Treatments

What are Hemorrhoids

internal and external hemorrhoidsHemorrhoids are quite common and by age 50, it’s estimated that half of adults have experienced them at one time or another. Also known as ‘piles’, hemorrhoids are veins in your anus and lower rectum that have become swollen and inflamed. An embarrassing subject for many people, hemorrhoids are common and something you should not be afraid to deal with or talk to your doctor about!

You may have internal or external hemorrhoids or both. Those located internally are often not felt if they are higher up and usually do not cause discomfort, though they can leave marks of blood on your stool. External hemorrhoids are often painful and itchy since there are many nerve receptors in that area. These too can break open and bleed, causing bright red blood to leak into the toilet bowl.

Understanding hemorrhoids is the first step to clearing them up and keeping them under control. It’s also important to note that while hemorrhoids themselves may not pose serious health risks, you may have other issues that your doctor should be aware of, so be sure to raise the subject with your local doctor.

Importance & Health Benefits of Vitamin D

Health Benefits and Importance of Vitamin D

importance of vitamin d and health benefitsThere are two types of Vitamin D: Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3). Vitamin D3 is synthesized by plants whereas Vitamin D3 is synthesized by humans via our skin and exposure to the UVB rays from the sun. Often we can get enough Vitamin D however during winter months, cloudy days and use of sunscreen, many people do not get as much Vitamin D as they need and deficiencies arise.

The Importance of Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps to maintain normal levels of calcium and phosphorus. It helps with absorption of calcium which as we know, helps us maintain strong bones and increase bone density. Without enough Vitamin D, our bodies will not properly absorb these minerals and as a result, will become deficient in these areas as well.
Recent research also points in the direction that Vitamin D can help protect from other health conditions like osteoporosis, high blood pressure, cancer and many autoimmune diseases.

Health Risks of Vitamin D Deficiency

If we do not get enough Vitamin D our bodies do not properly absorb minerals and nutrients that we need, no matter how many supplements we may consume. Some health conditions from lack of Vitamin D include, but are not limited to:
  • Rickets (skeletal deformaties in children) & Osteomalacia (weak muscles & bones in adults)
  • Hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid)
  • Hypoparathyroidism (low levels of hormone)
  • Cognitive issues
  • Kidney diseases
  • Respiratory concerns
  • Diabetes
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Muscle weakness & pain
  • Asthma
